I believe that the rates of pay have been the subject of fairly recent review and I have had no representation as to the inadequacy or otherwise of the amounts received by the rank and file, but at some opportune time I would suggest that consideration should be given to the fact that other than for one good conduct incre- ment there is no financial inducement beyond 6 years service. It is true that promotion brings a higher scope of pay but for the majority of these men there is not likely to be promotion opportunities and consequently in order to secure long service attachments and interest in police work I feel that there would be tremendous value in introducing, subject to good conduct and efficiency, additional increments at stages, for example, of 15, 20 and 25 years.
